When I started recording this podcast, I knew I wanted to somehow incorporate non-comedians into the process. I like learning more about people in general, and so it didn’t seem like an outlandish idea to me. My sister emailed me to let me know that she and her husband were coming for a visit and I knew this was the perfect opportunity to snag my first official non-comedian guests!
I’ve known Joanna for about, eh, thirty years. Our relationship while growing up rivaled that of the Gallagher brothers (Liam & Noel of Oasis fame). People used to tell us we would be the best of friends when we grew up, which would cause us to glance at each other in terror, and then openly mock the messenger in tandem, as I mention in the intro. And now, she’s definitely the only person who knows me better than myself. Actually…she probably does know me better than myself. Her husband Michael is a super cool guy and I couldn’t be happier to have him as a brother-in-law. They’re expecting their first child in July and it was really awesome to have the opportunity to sit and talk with them about their experience. I knew a lot of what was going through Joanna’s head as it relates to their pregnancy (as I have received many lengthy emails about poop in the past several months), but Michael was so incredibly candid and honest that I really was thrilled to hear more about everything he was going through. Pregnacy does affect both people, and hearing information from a father-to-be’s perspective was fascinating.I do hope you enjoy, and sorry for the weird end of my intro in the beginning!
When Nick Johnson isn’t playing with the incredibly talented Raygun Regan or coaching the delightful Oh No, Miyamoto for One Group Mind, he can be found doing lots of dumb things with Potential Boyfriends, all at Studio BE. Going into the reocrding of this episode, I don’t think I possibly could be less enthusiastic about a topic. I understand that sounds incredibly harsh, but the world of professional wrestling has never seemed very appealing to me.
And then I spoke with Nick. After this episode, we watched the 2008 Royal Rumble in its entirety, and it was one of the weirdest and most interesting things I’ve watched In a long time. If I may be so candid, I’m quite looking forward to checking out Wresltmania tonight.

Not only does Jessica Landis have the greatest first name on the planet, but she is a super funny lady here in Chicago who is enjoyable to watch doing the Make ‘Em Ups. She can be seen performing Mondays at Mullens on Clark with her improv team FrankenReagan, does fun comedy things with Gorilla Tango Improv Zoo and is also a performer with One Group Mind.
Pictures from our wig photoshoot mentioned in this episode can be found on the Let’s Get Serious for a Second Facebook Page!
I am happy with how the podcast is going, especially since I figured out some fun new editing techniques last night to make it sound a little bit better! Sort of.
